sugarlump factory is all about building character. kids can create their own sugarlump character, and their grownups can help give them the tools to build their character at the same time. they can decide what kind of a world they want to live in, design it online and take what they learn and create out into the real world. they have all the ideas. they just need their grownups to listen. when kids feel like they are being heard, and their ideas are important, they become confident so they can make a difference in the world.
a sugarlump is the feeling you get inside when you think of your very favorite memory, or when you do something really nice for someone else. we want to help create sugarlumps everywhere! kids feel sugarlumps all the time. so they can help their grownups remember what it's like.
the soft cube + fleece sugarlump has a pocket in the back that holds a journal where kids can keep their favorite ideas, wishes, dreams and ideas. they can scan in their pages and upload their adventures on the sugarlump blog. they can then mail their journal to a thoughts and feel connected.
one sugarlump package has a family sugarlump that a family keeps for a month and then passes on.
another book has a passport in it so you can take notes on all of the fantastic adventures you have been on. you can also collect badges for your sugarlump, or stickers for your sugarlump passport.
the third sugarlump holds a book that you and your child can make together that is personalized for your little one.
sugarlump lets kids and their grownups connect and is geared to bridge the gap between an online and offline world. you can take your sugarlump out into the world and do good things , and then upload your adventures onto the blog.
sugarlump lets you create a character, and build character at the same time. since kids are our future, I feel it is important to give them the tools to make a difference early-and mom and dad are the perfect mentors. and for children who need some extra love or guidance from a role-model, we have sugarlump scholarships through SMART (start making a reader today.)
we are also developing prgrams for classrooms to do sugarlump projects together.
the benefit here is that no matter who you are, where you come from or what you look like, there is something special just for you. the characters are in all different ethnicities and some do their best deeds while riding along in their wheelchairs.
my feeling is that when we empower kids to make a difference, and we help build up their confidence, there is nothing we can't accomplish together.

this is where little sugarlumps create their own character. everything from body type to skin tone to costume to hobby. kids are the heroes of their own lives. no matter who they are, or where they come from, they are important. we like to celebrate everyone's unique traits and characteristics. so this is a great platform to make kids proud of themselves just as they are! we believe in them and know if they are confident they can do anything.
this is where you get to design your sugarpod inside and outside. your pod is a living treehouse, so you need to take good care of it with lots of sunshine, water and love. inside the pod you have a desk where you can create, a place to rest, a bed for your pet, and all of your sugarlump badges. your neighborhood is filled with the pods of your friends and family.

there will be five different worlds at sugalrump. each world respresents a different category: community, opportunity, energy, environment, health, education,
shelter and safety. inside each world is the ability to create, play, assist, share, grow, or travel. but you can always get home to your pod from wherever you are.
sugar lou
you will be able to create your own books from your sugarlump worldly adventures. we can also customize our sugar lou story with your own name and sugarlump character. we will publish books about what sugarlump activities are going on locally so you can find all of the fun and helpful things you want to do! we would love to publish your adventures and ideas, so this will be a section for uploading images and stories that we will put together for you.
Sugar-Lou has things to do.
She draws and paints and pastes with glue.

sugarlump to go
sugarlump to go is a sugarlump all packed up in it's own little suitcase. you can write in your journal and then send the whole package to another kid in a whole different state or even in another country! you can follow the progress of your sugarlump on our interactive map and learn about all of his adventures. he will have lots of great things to share when he gets back home with is passport filled out.
there are lots of different ways to sprinkle sugar, and this section bridges the gap between an online and offline world. as kids are interacting on the site through games, learning and discovery, the same themes are mirrored offline.
community
how well do you know your neighbors? Plan a potluck for all the people on your street. Design invitations, print flyers, assign dishes, and select decorations for the party. Or, you can also organize an event at your school and invite your classmates instead.
opportunity
be an entrepreneur for the summer: map a hike, build an obstacle course, pet sit for a family member, host a dance party, set up a lemonade stand, design jewelry, make art or sell garden vegetables. if you earn money, add it to your piggy bank, or donate it to your sister sugarlump school.
energy
draw a picture of your house and then count the number of light bulbs you find in each room. write the total next to your house. are your lightbulbs energy-efficient? what does energy-efficient mean? ask your parents. if you learn that your family is still using incandescent lighting, post your picture next to the grocery list and remind your parents to look for better light bulbs the next time you go to the store.
environment
start a collection of reusable tote bags in the trunk of your car or in your backpack, then, when your family goes shopping say no to paper and plastic – just use your own! earn a pin after three waste-free trips.
health
do you like junk food? for one whole week, find a buddy and say no to salty snacks, sugary snacks, sodas and fast food. during this week, try to keep a diary of everything that you do eat and share your experience with your buddy. bonus points can be earned if you visit a local farmer’s market and help prepare meals.
education
ask your parents to help you find a computer donation center (like computers for youth - www.cfy.org) that services your city. once you’ve identified a service, design posters and set out a drop box at your school. set a goal (say, 10 computers or $100 donation) and do everything you can to inform classmates and encourage teacher participation.
shelter
Gather a box full of scrap materials from around the house and set up a workspace with string, glue, scissors, wires and paints. Your goal is to construct a miniature shelter from these materials and write a brief story about the people who live there. (If you’re really into this project, consider visiting a recycling center for supplies.)
safety
sugarlump world puts safety first.
* children and parents will sign up together and from that point onward, the child will not be able to log on without the parent.
* actions are limited. players just clock on arrows that point in the direction they would like to go and their character moves forward. players can communicate with a basic set of emoticons is. chat options are computer-generated, player selected.
* every communal space in the sugarlump world is equipped with a skilled moderator.
* pen-pal messages must be approved by a parent before the lumpees can see them in their mailboxes.
* art/writing/suggestion submissions must be filtered and approved by both parent and moderator before posting.
* the sugarlump world is dedicated to providing an ad-free environment for children. the blog may support advertisements from sponsors, partners, and progressive companies (ex: gdiapers.com), but the site members have the ability to vote on them, and ads (or companies) that receive overwhelmingly negative scores will not be accepted again.
* information about predatory activities and cyber-bullying will be readily available.
* the sugarlump world is designed to qualify for the BBB kids privacy seal of approval.

a link to local sugarlump groups.
this is where kids and their grownups can upload videos and images and journal entries. you can show the world how your ideas are making a difference. one sugarlump at a time. ; )
